Bugibba

Bugibba is a popular resort that forms just part of a larger tourist area stretching for 5km along to St Paul’s Bay, around Qawra Point and into Salina Bay. Out of this group of resorts, Bugibba is the largest, with good views of St Paul’s Bay and its islands. Bugibba is renowned for having the liveliest nightlife out of the 3 resort areas, a cinema, bingo hall and even a casino. Located on the North East coast of Malta and only 15km from Valletta, Malta’s capital city, Bugibba is the perfect base for visitors wishing to tour the rest of the island.  Transfer time between Luqa airport and Bugibba  is approximately an hour to an hour and a half depending on localised traffic conditions.

Bugibba, Malta

As with many of Malta’s seafront resorts, Bugibba comes with a flat rocky shoreline perfect for those looking to sunbathe without the sand getting here, there and everywhere. This shoreline makes it great for watersports enthusiasts. Swimming and snorkeling is very popular from the rocks but it is imperative that you locate a suitable exit point from the water, and be aware of the black sea urchins found on the rocks. Bugibba and the neighbouring resort of  Qawra are both fronted by flat seafront promenades which are perfect for a pleasant stroll along the front in the cool of the evening after a long hot summer day.

If  you would prefer a sandy beach then the island’s best can be found 8km away at Mellieha Bay and slightly further afield in Golden Bay. Regular buses run to these beaches from Bugibba, details of which can be found further down the page.

Whilst in Bugibba, I am sure that you will be looking for the usual  necessaries and tourist souvenirs. The resorts shops are perfect for this type of shopping. If you are looking to shop in some of the worlds major brands’ establishments then a trip to Valletta or Sliema is a must. Once again buses to the shopping districts of these two resorts are frequent.

We earlier mentioned that Bugibba is the best area in St Pauls Bay for nightlife. Well you will be pleasantly surprised how Bugibba transforms into a hive of activity after dark with it’s multitude of bars, karaoke bars and night clubs to cater for those with an urge to party.  For those looking to chill out and relax over a good meal Bugibba has its fair share of restaurants for those wanting a less raucous time. The main night time entertaiment revolves around Bugibbas’ Square and the streets surrounding it. For those wanting more hardcore bars and clubs, then Paceville, Malta’s nightlife capital is for you and easily accessible with Night Buses in operation on weekends in the Winter and nightly in the months of Summer
